WEAR JEANS, CHANGE LIVES ON FRIDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2012

This year’s Jeans for Genes Day takes place on Friday 5th October.

A beautifully simple idea, the Day invites people to leave their suits and uniforms at home and wear their jeans to work or school in return for a donation.

Jeans for Genes Day provides vital funding for the care and support of children with genetic disorders. In 2012, 23 charities will benefit from the funds raised on Jeans for Genes Day.

Celebrity supporters this year include Amanda Holden, Katie Price, Coleen Rooney, Michelle Keegan, Lauren Pope, Jessica and Carol Wright, Caggie Dunlop and Jade Thompson.

The target for this year’s Jeans for Genes Day is £2.5million. To order a free fundraising pack go to www.jeansforgenesday.org or by call freephone 0800 980 4800.

KIDSPACE has confirmed itself as one of the best play centres around after winning three prestigious awards.

The indoor adventure park scooped a Gold, Silver and Bronze at the PPA [Play Providers’ Association] Aspire Awards 2012 last Wednesday (September 19th) at Drayton Manor.

Kidspace Romford won the title of Best Site Over 15,000sqft, for which its sister venue in Croydon picked up the silver medal.

Romford also scooped the bronze award in the Best Food and Beverage category.

The PPA is the industry body which represents more than 175 play operators in the UK, aiming to raise standards and promote the indoor play sector.
The awards are held annually to recognise excellence in a  number of areas, and Kidspace was announced a worthy winner following a visit by a mystery shopper combined with the judges’ average score.

Kidspace owners Richard Farley and Nick de Candole said: “Our aim is to provide the best indoor adventure playgrounds for people to enjoy, and we are delighted to be recognised for doing just that.

“This is the fourth consecutive year that we have been honoured at the PPA Aspire Awards and we are extremely proud of our fantastic team at Kidspace for what they have achieved.”

Hobbledown author inspires local schoolchildren

AN author who saw her book come to life when an adventure park was built after it has made a motivational visit to pupils at Epsom Primary School.

Angela Kecojevic, whose book Hobbledown is the basis for the new Epsom-based adventure park and farm of the same name, visited the youngsters last Friday (September 21) to talk about her popular novel.

Hobbledown is a classic tale of adventure, magic and mayhem and Angela’s trip to Epsom Primary was the first in her series of Riddles, Rhymes and Mysterical Times creative writing workshops.

During the session Angela told the children about her life as a writer, how her book was created and how it links to the magical land of Hobbledown.
The mum-of-three then got the pupils using their imaginations to create their own stories.

She said: “Lots of the children had already heard of Hobbledown and quite a few had read the book, which was fantastic.

“They particularly liked seeing the glime, which is a type of goo in the book, and they were quite intrigued by the rogue Skibbler characters and had lots of questions such as where you can find them.”

Angela has been described as an ‘exciting new writer’ by Dan Good, the creator of BBC’s Waybuloo who said his family all thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful and wacky world of Hobbledown that she has created.

Epsom Primary School secretary Emma Scott said: “The children really enjoyed the workshops and there was a big queue at the end for the book signing.”
