National children and families charity,
4Children, in partnership with Take a Break magazine, will open its annual 4Children
and Take a Break Family Heroes Awards for nominations on Thursday 6 June
2013. The Family Heroes Awards take place each year to
celebrate unsung heroes in each region of the country who go above and beyond
the call of duty to support families through tough times.
The Family Heroes Awards recognise extraordinary people whose dedication and kindness have touched people’s lives and helped them to overcome adversity. The awards are open to everyone, from people who work or volunteer to support families to those who take self sacrifice and care for their own family to a whole new level. 12 regional family heroes will be selected, with one inspirational hero being selected as the overall national Family Hero 2013 and thanked for their selfless devotion with a cash prize of £5,000.
Returning to host the awards for a third year, radio and television presenter, Neil Fox said: “I am delighted to be hosting the Family Hero Awards once again on behalf of 4Children and Take a Break. Families are at the heart of our communities and the Family Hero Awards are a time to celebrate this and thank those that have made a real difference in helping to support families and children across the UK.
“As many of us know,
raising a family is one of life's most incredible and rewarding
experiences.....but it is also, at times, one of the hardest jobs out there and
sometimes we all need a bit of extra help to get by and give our children the
best possible start in life.
“These awards are the
least we can offer to the heroes that have inspired us and helped us to get
through the daily challenges of everyday life.”
TV and Radio Presenter, Emma Forbes“As a mother of two I know that family life can often throw up all kinds of unexpected challenges. At times like these, having someone around to share the load can make all the difference between families coming through difficult times stronger or falling apart. The Family Heroes Awards is a wonderful opportunity to say a big thank you to all those people for whom nothing is ever too much trouble. If your life has been touched by someone who doesn’t realise how special they are, please take a moment to put them forward for the thanks they truly deserve for being a Family Hero.”
Anne Longfield OBE, Chief Executive of 4Children said: “With research from 4Children’s Fair4Families campaign showing that families are struggling to make ends meet and get the support they need, we know that for many families, life is an uphill battle. That’s why it’s more important than ever to find and thank those people who go above and beyond to help others through difficult times – often without realising what their actions mean to those around them.
“We believe that
finding our family heroes will help to inspire people across the country to do
as much as they can to help people in their families and communities. If you
have a family hero, why not share their story and put them forward for a thank
you that shows just how appreciated they really are.”
Rebecca Fleming,
Editor of Take a Break, said: “It
is always an enormous privilege to meet all our Family Heroes finalists and to
hear their stories. They are special people who every day go the extra mile to
help others through difficult times. To us, they are all true heroes.”
The Families Heroes awards will be looking for outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. A Family Hero could be:
- Someone who has shown amazing courage to protect or support a family member in need
- Someone who has helped a young person turn their life around after having a bad experience
- Someone who has supported a friend with postnatal depression
- Someone who is a young carer looking after a disabled parent
If you know or are related to someone who you think is a true family hero, why
not show your appreciation by nominating them for this prestigious award?
Nominations open on Thursday 6 June 2013 and close on 31 August. A family hero
will be selected from each of the 12 UK regions (London, South East, South
West, North East, North West, East of England, East Midlands, West Midlands,
Yorkshire & the Humber, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) one of which
will be crowned the UK’s Overall Family Hero 2013 and will receive a £5,000
cash prize.
Each finalist will receive an all expenses paid trip to London to attend the glamorous Family Heroes Awards Ceremony on 23 October and will have their story featured in Britain’s best selling women’s weekly, Take a Break.
